Here's our kitchen. Just left of those windows was entrence to den (can be seen in prior page). Tiled floors are electrically heated. Uses
hardly any electricity, doesn't heat room but is nice underfoot. Originally we were going to keep the beams exposed, 100 year old beams,
but they just we not interesting enough to justify. We used formica countertops, to be replaced later with tile. Took 6 months. We also
removed a wall and made the width completely open front to rear. Bottom left photo.
I'll find some photos of before but it was a mess. We cut the sky light hole
during a snow storm. In total we have seven sky lights and none
leak....cool.
Left is looking towards the back. Originally
there was one 24" window out back and
the shed roof saged about 2". Cut that
room completely off, Sawzal and started
new. All new floors, wouldn't do that again,
much easier to hire someone.
Shed is about 15' square. I've build racks in the
back and holds lots of junk...I should know
according to my wife.
This front porch had to
go. Metal door was
rotten, wooden door
leaked like a seive and, in
general, looked out of
place. Wanted something
more along Craftsman
style, Greene and
Greene. I used bead
board for ceiling and the
front door has since been
replace. This entry area
is build with fir and cedar
wood, ebonized oak and
fitted with Craftsman light.
Steps have been rebuilt
with pressure treated
decking and stained with
Cabot paints. You can see
where we stripped the paint
from our front windwos and
reglazzed them before
painting.
